I would like to take this time and introduce myself and my practice. My name is Shelly D. Minor, Ph.D. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist starting a practice in Contra Costa County providing psychological services to the Brentwood, Oakley, Antioch, Bethel Island, and surrounding communities. I have been a long time resident of the Brentwood area since 1976, graduating from the local High School. Although I sought my college education outside of the area, I found myself returning to Contra Costa because of my love for the small community and the beauty of this area. My specialty is working with adolescence and families, along with eating disorders, drug abuse, and trauma recovery.

With seven years of experience working with juveniles and adults in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, I have developed an integrated focus when addressing acting out behaviors, drug abuse, mood disturbances, and emotional disturbances due to trauma (i.e., individual, group, and family treatment). I have extensive training and experience in crisis intervention and abuse related issues.

In addition to my experience in Clinical/Forensic Psychology, I have fifteen years of experience working with health related issues. During this time I worked as a Lifestyle Weight Management Counselor and Strength and Conditioning Specialist dealing with issues involving health and fitness (i.e., disordered eating, body image distortion, smoking cessation, and/or behavior modification/motivation to increase a healthy lifestyle and obesity prevention). In addition, my clinical research through my doctoral program focused specifically on the Effects of Exercise Programs on Depression and Anxiety in Women and the importance of physical activity on mental health.
