Dr. Carpenter is a trained Clinical Psychologist with experiences in academic and clinical settings. She is committed to her work and takes great care to provide attention to her clients' needs. She has extensive experience working across all age groups in areas of depression, anxiety, relational difficulties, and behavioral/process addictions.
Dr. Carpenter has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Miami University, Ohio. She appreciates scholarship and research that informs evidence-based practices and can bring about real change.
She teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses using different modalities. She has also conducted research in pediatric psychology and community psychology. Thus, Dr. Carpenter is an active proponent of continued education and the use of valid and reliable interventions.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky, Dr. Carpenter may provide telehealth services to clients in these locations whenever possible.

Psychotherapy is provided to adult individuals and couples, using an interpersonal approach based on the Gottman Theory with strategies from cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral techniques. A typical psychotherapy session is 45 minutes, scheduled at a time of convenience. Couples therapy can be 45 minutes, but a 90-minute session is recommended.
