I am a former registered nurse who returned to graduate school to become a psychologist. I completed my Master's degree in counseling at Tennessee Technological University, and my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kentucky.

As a nurse I worked in hospital, medical clinic, and public health settings with a variety of populations of many different ages. As a psychologist I have worked with traditional and non-traditional university students in campus counseling centers, provided psychological assessment and interventions in a physical rehabilitation facility, and now I provide specialized services for people with cancer.

My training at the University of Kentucky provided specialization in working with couples and families (using a variety of techniques and perspectives including family systems), as well as with trauma survivors. For many people being diagnosed with cancer, or having a loved one who is diagnosed with cancer is traumatic. Cancer also affects all those who care about the person who has cancer so my training and education in trauma and systems is more useful than I could have anticipated as a doctoral student.

Services
I work with people who have cancer and their family members and/or caregivers providing:

*psychological assessment
*individual counseling and psychotherapy
*couples' interventions
*group support
*referral to community resources
*stress and anxiety management including biofeedback
*psychoeducation and support for the cancer experience
*grief counseling and support.

Each person who is diagnosed brings their experiences, concerns, and relationships into the cancer journey. Having psychological services conveniently provided in the medical oncology office gives patients and families the opportunity to learn new coping skills at a very important time in their lives.
