After receiving his Ph.D. from Florida State University, he received training in sex therapy in the Human Sexuality Program at UCLA, staying on as a supervisor and then was Co-Director from 1983 to 1993. He organized several conferences on treatment of the sexual problems of adults who were sexually abused as children. He has presented nationally and internationally on sexuality, psychotherapy and neuroscience. He is a Past President and Fellow of the American Academy of Psychotherapists.
