Hello and thank you for your interest in my work! My name is Rebecca Soffer and I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist. I received my Psy.D. from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California and recently completed an Infant Parent Mental Health Post Graduate Certification through the University of Massachusetts Boston.
I love working with young children, particularly with preschoolers. I acquired this passion through my work as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant in preschools and infant toddler centers. My approach in working with children is relationship based and strength based. As much as possible, I work in conjunction with the important adults in a child's life (e.g., parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, etc...), incorporating theories of attachment, developmental psychology, psychodynamic psychology, and the models of mutual and self-regulation.
I am able to help parents and children who are experiencing anxiety, difficult behaviors such as tantrums, preschool expulsion, depression, biting, low self esteem, enuresis/encopresis, and general relationship difficulties. I know a lot about different philosophies of Early Childhood Education, and can help you make an informed decision about which school (Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, etc...) is the best fit for you and your child.
I am fluent in both English and Italian.
