Dr. Jason Murphey graduated with a degree in psychology from UCLA and went on to recieve his masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute in 2008. Dr. Murphey completed his predoctoral internship at the University of the Pacific Counseling Services and a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at Summit Eating Disorders and Outreach Program. Dr. Murphey has also worked in hospital inpatient, community mental health settings, and as staff psychologist and psychotherapist at The Anxiety Treatment Center of Sacramento. In 2011, Dr. Murphey cofounded Sage Psychotherapy and Treatment Program, an intensive outpatient program for OCD/Anxiety Disorders, where he functioned as its Program Director. He has presented on the topic of mindfulness in the treatment of OCD for the Sacramento Valley Psychological Association and at the 2011 International OCD Foundation conference. Dr. Murphey has also presented to various organizations in the Sacramento Valley on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Dr. Murphey's clinical practice is grounded in Humanistic philosphy, and he utilizes an integrative approach that includes mindfulness and acceptance-based, emotion-focused, and cognitive-behavioral techniques to help clients recognize the disparities that lead to suffering and then to make changes to build a sense of order intheir lives that they can accept.

Areas of ExpertiseWhile Dr. Murphey works in therapy with adolescents, adults, older children, and couples, he is particularly interested in working with teenagers and young adults with a variety of issues, including identity development and gay/lesbian/bisexual/gender issues. In addition to helping people with general psychological and emotional issues, he specializes in the treatment of anxiety and OCD, as well as eating disorders and body image.
His interests include neuroscience, the mind-body connection, and use of mindful experience in healing. In recent years he began practicing mindfulness meditation and has incorporated aspects of mindfulness training into his clinical practice with clients.
